Recording Studio Feng Shui

Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3000 years ago in China.  Basic Feng Shui is the study of how to balance the energies in a given space.
More than almost anywhere, it is important that the energies are balanced in a recording studio space so that artists feel relaxed and comfortable.  In addition to great equipment and engineering, the energy or feel of the space can contribute greatly to the overall feel of a recording.
Here are some tips on how to keep the energies high in a studio:

1. Recording Studio Organisation

Having everything clean and organised and from clutter is essential to recording studio feng shui.  It is widely known that when we work in a clear space it is easier to get things done because we don’t have to search for things.  If we keep everything in it’s right place and always put them back there then it makes for a much more efficient operation of the recording studio.  A clean uncluttered environment also make a good impression on clients that are visiting the recording studio, especially for the first time.

2. Recording Studio Space

Where possible keep the studio space open. This may mean having storage for Microphones and other studio items or may just mean having them neatly positioned in a corner whilst leaving the space in the middle free and open

3. Let the Recording Studio breathe

While not recording or mixing in the recording studio, open the door and let some light and air in.  This just keeps the environment fresh and the energies moving.

4. Recording studio attitude

Have a happy attitude.  There is nothing better for the feeling of a recording studio than engineers and producers with a happy attitude and positive outlook.  Ultimately if clients like you and feel comfortable and happy in the studio and with you they will want to come back. They will also tell other people.  Word-of-mouth advertising is always the best.
